Right, and a bit pointless I guess since DV records audio on the tape. External audio, though, with the XL2 having internal SMPTE time code... should match up seemlessly without needing the visual referance the slate. Correct? Just thinking about for when we'd use them, more seemlessly integrating these cameras in to our usual production habbits.

TC out to TS-3 Slate

This piece of gear should give you what you want. It simply plugs into the Lanc jack and extracts the code outputting to an external device such as the Denecke slate. You were confined to drop frame only with the XL-1/s but the XL-2 adjustable code changes everything. I have found that reality show producers like the DV cameras with time of day / reel number capability because of the ease of logging tapes in post.
