Xl-2 heads clean or repair at DVinfo.net

Want a opinion on the following please: Used my xl-2 for about 2 1/2hrs recording and 2 hours watching play back, got a dv tape rewinder not to ware the heads down as they say is possible. Anyway during playback of the recorder tapes there are a couple of glitches in the tape such as the top of the picture stops moving and the bottom half moves then the top catches up to it, seems to last about a second or so but when replaying the tape that scene seems to be fine and don't have the same problem with it. seems to be random using panasonic ay-dvm63amq.99% of the tape is fine but as mentioned it's random and what was fine might be glitched and what had a glitch is now fine run a dry tape head cleaner or send for repair?

When recording this has happened with 3 of the same brand tapes bought at seperate times and did not by in bulk. The playback is crystal clear except for the above problem thanks in advance.

Tape transport systems don't actually use the heads during re - wind, and the transport systems are designed to be hammered for years on end, so stop worrying about it.

Buy a decent dry head cleaning tape and run it a few times through the machine.

Before you change to recording another tape, run the cleaning tape again. Do so for each new tape you put in the machine.

If you continue to have problems on playback, then is the time to think about sending it to Canon.

CAUTION: Dry head cleaning tapes are abrasive. Repeated use (used too often) can cause damage to recording heads. One use should be sufficient in your situation.

Your best bet would be to send the camera to Canon for a thorough cleaning. Better to pay for a cleaning than having prematurely worn heads replaced. The former will be far less expensive.
