XL2 headphones socket

On a shoot yesterday the sound recordist complained that sound was dropping out periodically. Thankfully we had captured everything OK and we traced the problem back to the fact that the headphones out socket has somehow broken (looks like someone has walked away with the headphones on and has yanked the socket out - the green plastic surround is broken). When the DoP was leaning against the camera it caused it to fail.

Is this a home repair? The cam is out of warranty.

I'm guessing not, so would anyone have details of a south of England Canon repair specialist that they can recommend (Hampshire/Surrey/Berkshire/London)?

Cheers,

Ian . . .

ps, we used a P&S adaptor and a set of Nikon primes for the first time. Magnificent!

I cannot help you with where to get it repaired, however when you do use a 90 deg. adapter on the camera. That way when someone goes too far it rotates and the headphone plug will pull out of the adapter rather than break off!! :-)

To paraphrase Comic Book Guy - "Best advice ever!". Cheers Bill!

ps I worked in Stamford, CT for a while and used to visit a fantastic place on the beach not far from you that served lobster and melted butter only - you had to bring your own cutlery, plates etc and you sat on benches looking at the sea at sundown. Sad part is I only ever went there on my own! I used to spend one week in the UK , one week in the US and one week elsewhere in the world and I worked on that cycle for a good few years. My wife got a bit weary of it so she never visited Stamford!
