Will the XL2 playback DVCAM?
Hi All,
I was trying to playback for capture a minidvcam tape recorded on a Sony DSR 500WSL camera. Although there was video and audio the timecode was blinking and FCP was giving me timecode errors. I was wondering if DVCAM a Sony thing and Canon won't support the format? Cheers, Jon |

No, none of Canon's units will support DVCam playback. That's why I had to buy a Deck.

Just to be clear, it's not a Canon vs Sony thing per se. DVCAM is a different format from DV. Same family, so yes, they share many properties, but it would be kinda like wondering why you're not getting a picture when you put your audio CD in a DVD player.
I don't know all the technical details, but DVCAM runs at a faster speed, maybe has a different track pitch, etc. Have fun! Rob |

Some Sony Cameras will play DVCam back, and the Sony Decks will. I use a DSR-11 which will play and record DVCam on both small and large cassettes.
