Mounting the SD card

Hi,

Is there any way of getting access to the SD card over firewire? Was surprised it didn't just pop up when I plugged the firewire cable in.

Im about 99% positive that this is not possible. When you plug this firewire device into your computer, it detects it as a multimedia device, but does not mount a drive. You will need a memory card reader. A few other camera's come with USB plugins as well as Firewire, which allows access to the SD card, but not the A1.

Luke is right -- an SD card reader is absolutely essential. There's no way to access the SD card via FireWire.

Trouble with card on A1

Can anyone help me. I have the XH A1 and think it's awesome but I cannot get my PC to see the card to download stills or upload pre-sets etc. my old XM2 used a USB port and was no problem. The only firewire connection on my PC is via Avids breakout box.

By design, the only way to read/write to your A1's memory stick is using a PC card reader (very cheap). You *can* access the card in A1 via FiWi, but *only* using an $600 software from Canon, called Console 1.1 (it can read and write custom preset files, but not stills).
