Wedding- Quick Audio Questions

Hey guys, I am shooting a wedding on Thursday and need some quick expert advice. My job will be mainly to walk around and interview the guests.

1. How good is the XH-A1 onboard mic for this?
2. Should I use my Rode's Videomic instead?
3. I think I know the answer to this last one already, but.... Will I get the best audio from just connecting a Sure SM57 dynamic mic to the XLR port on the XH-A1

I would run some tests myself but don't really have the time anymore. Got some previous jobs before that :-(

Thanks in advance

Depends on the venue adn the effect you are trying to achieve. At a reception with music or dancing going on, anything other than a mic (wireless or wired) held a few inches from the speakers mouth will not give very good results if you want clear dialog without shouting

The built-in mic will only be useful if you are with in a few feet of the speaker and there is minimal background sound. The video mic will be a bit better, but again, only if the location is fairly quiet.

The wired (or on a wireless adapter) mic SM57 will probably give you the best results, especially if held close (3 to 9 inches) from the speakers mouth.

I've had excellent interview results using a Shure SM58 with a Sony wireless system. And this was in a room with an all-too-loud DJ doing his thing.
