XH-A1 workflow idiosyncrasies

I've been shooting 1080 60i footage and have experienced some problems with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and the capture process. By default if I use Log and Capture, on the "Clip Settings" tab the default setting is to "Create new clip on Start/Stop". What happens is after nine clips, it stops creating clips. I'm sure there's a setting somewhere to change this value? So, since I don't know how to change this, I've been unchecking the "Create new clip on Start/Stop" setting and capturing the footage as one big chunk. I recently had about 40 minutes of footage and it got all the way to the end and hung, never writing the clip to the browser. I tried the whole process again and the same thing...? Any ideas on how to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.
