How good is the mic on xh a1, do you need a shotgun mic?
Just wondering about the mic on a canon xh a1, I video deer and turkey hunts and is the factory mic enough and is it as good as the mic on a canon xl1s?
Thanks |

If you can afford a shotgun then my advice is to buy one. Sennheiser ME66 is a nice shotgun. Go here for shotgun info.... http://dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?f=53

If you are filming lots of hunting isn't a "shotgun" required for the hunt? :-)
Sorry .... couldn't pass up the opportunity! It just hit me! :-) |

If you're just shooting hunters, set it on automatic gain and use the camera mic. It'll be good enough for ambient sound. If you want to do anymore than that, I'd get a real mic. However, there's not a lot you can do with a mic mounted on the camera other than record ambient sound. For interviews and so on, you need a soundman with a fishpole, or a wireless lav.
