Focus display distance -- custom display...
I've tried setting the custom display setting for the Focus Distance Display (item 04 on page 91 of the manual) to 01 - ON(NORMAL) or 02 - ON(ALWAYS), but they both behave the same. After focusing, the distance display dissappears at both settings. Is this a known problem or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks, Paul |

Hi Paul,
So far you're doing everything right, but there's just one little catch... you haven't activated your Custom Displays yet. Once you've closed out the Custom Displays menu, none of your settings are activated until you tell the camera that you want your custom displays turned on. Just like the Custom Presets... they're not actually on until you switch them on, with the CP on / off button. So, to activate your chosen custom display settings, press the Disp. button (found above Peaking) one time. Bingo -- your focus distance is now "always on." Along with whatever other customizations you've made to the display. Press the button again to remove everything but the guides, and press it a third time to make everything disappear except the video. Press one more time and you're back to the default normal display. Hope this helps, |

I've noticed some display customization only affect the "default" display (i.e. the one before the "first" DISP button push), while a couple of others (don't remember which now - certainly the focus and zoom distance being always on) take effect after the button push (i.e. on the customized display). There is some inconsistency - or perhaps I just haven't realized the logic (if any) behind it.
