XH-A1, GL2, and HV20 doin' it for the turtles.

Here's the A1, GL2 and HV20 working together in Puerto Vallarta for a baby sea turtle release.

No color correction yet, so you can see the difference. All footage is right from the cams. HDV to SD with a letterbox mask on the GL2.

The GL2 was in an Ewa-Marine housing.

Anniversary interview

www.eldersofthedarktower.com

Although this is a sketch, I think I would set up the lighting exactly the same for a real interview. Its a Lowell dvcreator 55 kit. There's a Rifa55 on the left as key light, a Omni light with an umbrella bounce for fill on the right, and a 250w pro light for a back light. The windows are also giving a nice blue back light. Mic is a AT897. Preset is vividRGB. It turned out a little red with the multiple format conversions. And yes, that's me with the awesome 'stache. Thanks for taking a look!

Timelapse Full Moon Shot

I was playing around a little tonight with this BRIGHT moon we have here...

http://www.jcdv.com/WMV/timelapse_moon.wmv

BTW, this is actually 2 clips into 1. The moon was shot first, then I shot the treeline. I played with the alpha channel on the moon and overlaid it on the tree shots.....

"Poker Night" Testing Pana35 + B&W presets, Timelapse

Hey Everybody,

Last week I decided to bring the A1 to poker night (a weekly tradition at my buddy's house). This was obviously a risky decision, considering there was alcohol involved. Luckily, not everybody showed up so it was a small game and nothing was broken.

ANYWAY, on to the stuff you guys actually care about ;D

First off, most importantly, I shot this in DV 16:9.

For the color segments, I used the Pana35 preset, and for the B&W segment I used the B&W preset (from the preset downloads sticky).

Shot in 60i in AV mode entirely at F1.6 (might have shifted slightly when I zoomed in).

Edited in Final Cut Pro. Filters added were CGM Brightness & Contrast, Stylize-->Vignette, and CGM Timewarp FF.

Editing time: Approximately 6 hours on and off while at work.

Enjoy! And, as always, please let me know what you think!*

*Disclaimer: No animals were harmed during the filming of this short. All rowdiness was directed by John Lofton IV. We aren't really that crazy, I swear. Drink responsibly, especially when playing poker for money with your friends. This video may cause the inexplicable urge to jump up out of your chair and dance. Thank you.

I like it overall, great idea... The only thing I wasn't really a big fan of was the vignette only because in the center it seemed to be very substantial where the vignette stops mid way in to the frame... Maybe if you expanded it out and feathered it a little it might look just a tad smoother... But overall I really thought it was pretty cool...

my first footage with DOF

Hello

3 days ago I bought CANON XH A1. This is my first footage... There is some problems with light strobe (sorry that), but i did not used any special lights, softboxes or sth.else. I just made some colour correction by hx a1 (custom preset) and that's all!
I tried to show DOF of this camera. And this is it: www.contrust.ge/canon_first.mov = 28Mb

Why no record to SDHC?

Hi

I just don't get it. Why didn't Canon made it possible to record to the SD card in the XH-A1? As I understand the write speed to a SD Ultra II SDHC is about 9MB/s and HDV has a bitrate of 2,5MB/s (25Mbit) so speed can't be a problem. I've tried to save a HDV file on a SD card and there was no problem playing it on my PC fom the card. A firmware upgrade to handle recording to a SD card would be a nice christmas present. Perhaps sometime in the future when/if 16MB SDHC card will store more than one hour of HDV footage. Or an external cheap SD recorder connected to FireWire instead of an expensive hard disk recorder.

Or am I simply asking to much??

Regards,

/Bo

Sorry, this post should not have shown up here, but in the "Canon XH G1/XH A1 HDV Camcorders" section. I don't know how to move it!

Silly Music Video - XH A1

Hi

Okay, I know this is goofy video, but I just did it for my girlfriends birthday for fun. I shot it and edited it in half a day, sooo...

And it does have a lot of "in" jokes, so sorry about that.

Just thought I'd see what anyone thought of the effort. And the white background and such. Also you might get a laugh.

Check it out... (BTW, I'm waiting on th LetusExtreme which I just ordered a couple of days ago... wheee!)

Thanks!
Sean
