firewire to FCP
Ok so if i firewire the input of my new canon XH AI and i output it back to the camera . As long as i do no rendering and graphics then the signal wont degrade. So its just like Dv in that respect. Of my business caters to the broadcast industry and i still have no way of getting on my local nbc station except if i scale it down to SD ! So why did i get this wonderful camera ?

Is this a question or a statement?
Cuts only editing should see very little degredation - though anywhere you disrupt the GOP structure (groups of frames) there is going to be some degradation (but not enough to be noticable on a 1st gen edit). An alternative for higher quality SD work - you *could* capture HDV downconvert and edit as DVCPro50 (or uncompressed), and take it to a post house for output to a 4:2:2 format.

I burn a DVD with a quicktime file for our partner TV station. They can pull it into their NLE; no tape needed.
