I guess there are a lot of people hoping to see if Canon has released a GL3.

An XL2 post said a major retailer (Zotz) dropped the camera price by 10% yesterday. Could this be an indicator that Canon may be introducing something to our wishes at NAB soon? I know I maybe reaching a bit here, but hey, it's Area 51!

I'm hoping we'll see dueling HDV camcorders between Sony and Canon at NAB.

I've been watching the Sony A1U and notice there are less and less on the market. Most of the authorized Sony dealers have stopped carrying them, Sony's Style site no longer lists them, pricegrabber.com only has 6 re-sellers, and that $500 rebate goes straight into NAB.

Betcha we see an A1U replacement to compete with anything Canon introduces.

Did the SonyStyle site ever list them? The A1 is part of the Pro lineup and that site is for consumer products. They don't sell the Z1, PDX-10 or PD-170, but do sell the HC1, HC3, FX1 and VX-2100. The A1 is still listed on Sony's pro website:

http://bssc.sel.sony.com/Broadcastan...p=141&id=80897

And our sponsor B&H has them in stock if you want one:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search

It would be very unusual for Sony to discontinue one of their pro cameras so quickly. I don't think the A1 has even been shipping for a full year yet, has it? People have been predicting the demise of the PDX-10 for a year now, and in Europe the Sony site says it was replaced by the A1, but it's still listed on Sony's US site and available at B&H. And that camera is about 4 years old.

OTOH, this wouldn't be the first time that I was wrong about Sony's marketing plans! ;-)

Whoops, that's right the A1U is from the Pro dept.

I keep forgetting it's actually the A1U/Z1U and the HC3/FX1 which are related. I'm so used to talking about the FX1 vs Z1U which don't match, in that sense.

And hopefully we'll be able to put the GLH1/XLH1 on the list too.

Dell is selling the GL2 for $2300. They drop it $400.00. Plus there is a $250 rebate. Not a bad deal. It sounds like they are cleanin them out to me.

Very funny, read the previous message, I have been watching for years for this camera, and at last there seems to be some action, getting rid of the previous camera.

$2300 is a bit high. Most reputable places (B&H, BPAV, 17photo, etc.) are selling the GL2 for $2000 now. Add in the $250 rebate and it sure sounds like a blowout to me! =)

Tim,

Two years ago I picked up a GL2 with the exact pricing you just described from B&H.
