Impressed with Canon UK repair service
A quick report for UK Canon users.
My A1S, only bought in July, died last week. We had a local power failure that only lasted about a second but caused a surge which somehow did bad things to the camera while I was capturing to the pc over firewire. As a side note, it fried the pc motherboard as well. Yes, I use a surge protector before anyone points that out (and yes, it was clearly not a very good one!) . The camera was returned to Canon last Friday (through the vendor, ProVision Direct) for a warranty repair and it was discovered that it needed a new main board and new audio circuits. The Canon service centre in Elstree rang me and emailed me several times to keep me informed of progress. I was delighted when they told me on Thursday that the work had been completed and the camera was being shipped back to me. It arrived yesterday, 7 days after they received it. This is my first experience of the Canon repair service and I was nervous because I have read bad reports in the past, with some repairs taking five or six weeks. I'm sure it's not always plain sailing but credit where credit's due, they did a fantastic job in this instance. |
