Question about recording external DV video signal with the XHA1s

According to the user’s manual, you can record External Video Signal (HDV/DV In, Analog Line-In) with the XHA1s. I have recorded analog (Hi8) doing the pass-through conversion process.

But I want to know if it is possible to connect something like a bullet cam or other small camera to the XHA1s. I need to be able to lower a camera into a small crevice of rocks to record reptiles. Being able to monitor (and record) the live view would be desired.

I thought about just using an HD helmet-cam and not with the XHA1s but I don’t know of one that can focus within inches.

Thoughts?
