AV input 16x9 recording?
I was trying to capture a clip from my DVR that was from a 16x9 HD channel using the analog outputs of my DVR. Does the XH-A1 *always* capture widescreen material into a 4:3 letterbox when using the AV input?
The stuff wasn't encrypted or anything, it plays fine, but there was no difference turning letterbox on or off in the menu or HD downconvert on or off... Thanks! EDIT TO ADD: I'm thinking now it's the settings in the cable box/DVR now. Even though TV Type is set to 16x9. The analog outs seem to be sending 4:3 letterboxed...don't see a setting that I can change though. (even turning the box off and accessing the setup there) J. |

My understanding is that the analog video input (composite video input on the A/V jack) is limited to recording a SD video signal. This make sense in that the A/D funciton described on page 108 of the manual is stated to be limited to SD,
I would expect that if the analog source is 16x9 aspect ratio, the material recorded to tape would have the same pixel aspect ratio, but it is possible that the 16x9 flat might not be set. However, i have not tried it. I do agree the issue is quite likely with the cable box output. What cable company and converter box to you have? Is it covered in the cable company's documentation?
