Capture ProRes 1440x1080 or 1920x1080?

Hi guys

Just realised since I posted that there's just one capture setting relevant to me: HDV-Apple ProRes 422

My question is, for my XHA1 capturing into FCS2 via HDV-Apple ProRes 422, which of the following sequence presets will give me the best quality?

* Apple ProRes 422 1920x1080 50i 48 kHz

* Apple ProRes 422 1440x1080 50i 48 kHz

I'm concerned that if I use the wrong one, my resulting DVD might appear 'squashed' or something! :o)

Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

Peter

EDIT: I think I figured out that it's Apple ProRes 422 1440x1080 50i 48 kHz, because the item properties of the XH-A1 are 1440x1080 aren't they? So, the Sequence Settings much match the clip settings. I hope that's right anyway! :o)

Hey Peter.

The XH-A1 compresses the footage into 1440 by 1080 because it's a HDV camera so , i think you would probably bring the footage with it's original resolution , then you could stretch it in your NLE as desired.

hope it helped.

Peter,

1440 x 1080 works fine here - the new LT setting in FCS 3 is particularly good as it cuts storage and makes edit easier.

Strange though Log and Capture in '3 only gives a ProRes option with no further choices - it also generates inccorrectly formed files without a file type. A bug that will doubtless be fixed.

Nick.
