Remove the Cassette
My XH A1 has developed a problem, it will not accept a fully rewound tape, as soon as I put it in the eject indication flashes followed by 'Remove the Cassette' message the same happens if I rewind a tape in the camera, but if I put a tape in that that's rewound to around a minute from the start everything is ok, it's as though the camera can't sense the start of the tape and tries to rewind further than it can go and the safety device takes over. I'm also getting other strange messages when I shut the cassette compartment without a tape in, it says first that the record protection is on, and then 'Tape end' can someone explain please.

Hi Mick..........
How far are you from London?
It's a rhetorical question but relevant, nevertheless. You see, the symptoms you describe pretty well point to that old gem - "it's knackered". I'm sure there's a technical term but the bottom line is exactly the same. It (the camera) and possibly you will need to visit the Canon repair facility in London for a bit of attention to the tape transport (the cameras, not yours).
