xha1 microphone

Hallo Guys,
i want to buy an external microphone for my XHA1 and i need to know if the microphones mounted on the xl's series are compatibles (xlh1 or xl2) in order to use the mic-in on the camera handle (mini-jack) and not the xlr .
Thanks in advance
Mario

Mario,

If it is a 3.5 mm male mic connector, it will be compatible.

mic

Thank's Michael, what you think about, what is better, an old xl's series microphone or a commercial-compatible xlr mic (sony-panasonic),i would prefer a old xl's because once plugged into the mini-jack in, the microphone on board is automatically switched off, otherwise, with xlr, i have to open the menu...

Mario,

I think that option is up to you. the xha1 gives you many options. Me, personnally, would use my BEST external mic availible. The mic connection would determine how I would connect it to the xha1.

Switching to the xlr connections is quite easy in the menu....it takes about 5 secs to do. So I would not use that as the reason to use a mic with a mini-jack connector.

I use a shotgun mic with xlr connections. I use a very short xlr cable if I mount it on the camera AND I have longer cables if I choose to use a boom pole or place it on a stand.

Hope this helps.

Michael

Mario,

it all depends on what you plan to use your camera for.
If you need suggestions (in Italian!) please PM me.

ciao

Vasco

Note that the XH-A1 DOES NOT provide the 5 VDC power required by the standard Canon mics that come with the XL series camcorders.

thank's to everybody

...ok Don, thank's for your entry ,my dubt is disappear, now i know that the old xl's series mic are not compatible with my xha1.
Michael, you're right, are enough 5 seconds to switch the mic on xlr option, so have no sense a mini-jack mic (anyway, if my choice was only for this gap).
Vasco, you got a mail, "IN ITALIAN" (you suggest me to do it) i appreciate it.

thank's guys
Mario
