simple XHA1 music video shot at -3 gain with a $10 spotlight

a friend was recording some music in a studio and set up a lot of expensive flashing red and blue lights which didn't look very nice on film. i got a $10 spot light from the hardware and went for a more dramatic look, focusing on the artist.

i shot it at 25/fps, -3 gain, mounted on an old wooden miller tripod, initially slightly over exposed because i wanted to darken the shadows.

a touch of color correction, and BOB's your uncle....

what do you think?

Jai,

JT is my favorite artist sooooooo I enjoyed the music.

Maybe a little softer light or some powder on the subject...I thought the glare was a little distracting. I like the concept though.

Also recommend moving the monitor out of frame on the right.

Thanks for sharing.

thanks micheal,

there wasn't much time to fiddle around as they were actually recording, and on a time frame, and it was more of a documentary style shooting of him recording some tracks as opposed to a proper music video. (maybe i should have explained this in first post).

saying that, i probably should have shed MORE light on the monitor and sound technician instead of trying to completely wipe him out of shot, to give it more of a recording studio feel.

thank YOU micheal, for sharing your thoughts

learning... learning... learning....
