Capture PROBLEMS ! !

I love my two Canon XH A1's but I am getting so sick of capturing problems.

I use Adobe Premier Pro CS3 and Cineform Aspect HD to capture, still have all kinds of problems. I have tried both A1's so this is not camera specific. I have also tried a second Firewire cable, so that is not the problem.

Half the time I can not get the computer to see the cam, have to take the firewire cable in and out of camera till it detects it.

Then, sometimes the audio is all messed up, not on tape but just on capture, not syncing etc.

Sometimes there are all kinds of pixelization (sp) and the video is useless until I download again.

My computer is new and tons of ram, and speed and 6 500 gig hard drives so that is not the problem.

Anyone else having these issues, or found a way to fix them?

I hope it is a simple fix, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times capturing a tape before I get it right.

This will require some digging. There must be some type of compatability, or update issue in your chain. Here is what I would suggest:

1) Be sure that you have the proper audio drivers installed
2) Be sure that you are capturing to the same resolution/frame rate as recorded
3) Never Never connect the firewire when the camera is ON
4) Be sure you have the Canon specific presets from the Adobe website
5) try different firewire ports and see if the problem is consistent
6) if recording in HD, be sure your downconvert settings are correct
7) don't run other programs while capturing (personal preference)

If all else fails, you can always reinstall your OS and your editing software. And update your BIOS, along with all of the other drivers.
