XH Custom Preset for underwater?
Hello -
I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for... I'd like to do some filming underwater at a depth of ~30 feet and a distance of ~10 to 20 feet, ambient light only. Has anyone done any experimenting with color presets for underwater filming? If not, any advice (other than pushing reds)? If there is a thread please point me... :) Best, Lee |

The only thing I might try is warming it up a bit. There's not going to be much other than blue at 30' anyway, but you might be able to squeeze what color there is. No chance of renting an underwater lighting setup, is there? When I've shot underwater (a long time ago, not with the Canon) I used the daylight preset and then cranked up the reds when editing.

Lee,
Mostly all of my shooting is underwater, firstly definitely white balance as you go down. If you don't do it in stages it doesn't like it. I usually have one preset set to surface, use another to white balance on the way down with no red filter, then use filter and the preset red, then when even deeper i.e. 25m+ take out the filter due to the lack of light. My preset that I have set up is pretty basic and I then do correction post: GAM=N KNE=H BLK=S All other settings are 0 or N Obviously use manual gain i've have it set to -3, 0, 6 dB And I set the Colour temp in K to the temp of my lights so that when I do macro I flick the WB to that preset. Hope that helps, Jon |
