Playing back frame rates other than 60i
OK,
I thought I understood this subject but I'm now questioning myself. My son recently shot theater footage on the A1 using the 30 frame mode in Standard definition. The Canon manual is sparse in it's explanation of how it handles frame rates. Looks like the camera actually records at 30p. However, the text and diagram on page 40 of the manual says it outputs 60i. I suppose that's IF you use the camera as a playback device. I see that the camera will output 30p if you use the firewire port. The confusing thing is, I can put this same tape in my DV deck and it plays fine. I don't think the deck is doing any kind of 30p to 60i conversion. I am using a JVC 15" NTSC Hi-rez analog monitor to view this. This leads me to believe that the camera is not recording at 30p direct to tape. Anyone know what's going on here? Am I recording in 30p and my deck is simply interlacing the frames for playback? Is this OK? thx |

OK,
I may have figured this out. In SD mode, looks like the camera will pass 30p out the firewire port when shooting. Otherwise, 60i gets recorded to tape. In HD mode, u can record 30p to tape. Anyone disagree? |
