mixing xl2 with xa h1 ?

Hi, I have searched around, without finding anyone who addresses my question.

I do have an XL2, and I work mostly in 16:9.

I am looking for a seccond cam, and found a good price on a used xa h1. I figured this might be a good addition, but do anyone have practical experience with mixing these two cameras ?

My initial idea was to sell the xl2 and grab 2 similar cameras, but with all the extras I have for the XL2, I don't get an offer I can live with to justify this. Also I do not want to invest in another xl2 at this time, as Im likely heading towards HD.

Anyone ?

ops, wrong thread, sorry ! Move please ?

Hi Anders,

I was in a similar position to you. I've had my XL2 for about 3 years and have just purchased an XH-A1 a couple of weeks ago.

I've done a couple of shoots using both cameras but I haven't had a chance yet to match any footage - but I'm not too concerned. At this stage, you're not going to find a much better match to the XL2 than the A1 - other than buying another XL2 which as you've said isn't really an option.

If you want a camera that is similar to the XL2 but can shoot HD then get an A1.

The footage I've shot with it in HD is amazing - and HD downconverted to SD is better than the XL2 in my experience so far.

My original plan was to also sell my XL2 and accessories but it's worth more to me as a backup camera than what I could get for it.

The A1 is now my main camera and I love it.

Cheers,

Matthew.

Hi Matthew.

Thaks for the comment. Im pretty sure I will join you soon with the XL2-AH1 combo.

Might I ask if you now use the AH1 as main, or do you still use XL2 as you are more used to this ?

I also have a small hope that I can use the AH1 on my glidecam 4000, I always found the XL2 a bit too heavy to actualy use it more than a minutte at a time :)

regards

Anders

Hi Anders,

I am using the XH-A1 as my main camera now. It's tempting sometimes to go back to the XL2 because I'm so familiar with it - but it will be better in the long run to become adept with the A1.

You should have better results with the A1 on your Glidecam - it's definitely much lighter than the XL2.

Here's a few short clips I shot in the first few days of having my A1 if you're interested in taking a look:
