I think I'm finally getting it....video is one thing...sound is another

Truth is...I have yet to be disappointed with the video of the A-1. From "auto" mode to TV to full manual, the A-1 delivers for me. Wonderful video and having all those preset options... such a big bonus.

External sound recording is another thing.

I've finally decided that the A-1 isn't a Swiss Army knife when it comes to sound...it is the Swiss army knife in the video arena.

If I want top notch sound, I'm going to have to record sound like I did when I recorded on my 24 track.

If I want the sound I get on a CD along with video....I'm going to have to use the A-1 for video and the rest of my equipment for sound using the XLR inputs on my A-1..good option I think.

Anyone else do music videos on the A-1? How do you get the sound you want?

Tx.

For best results, you'll want a secondary recorder with a good signal path, preferably with a dedicated sound person. If you're recording live, it's best to hook into the house system. You could use the XH A1 as a sound recorder, but a dedicated audio recorder will give you better options. Check out DV Info's Audio Forum and search under "recorder". You'll find lots of discussions already on going.

One simple way to cheat music videos is to have the band perform with a studio recorded version of the song. Then just replace the audio in the video with the studio version.
