Sony HDR-HC7 compatible?
I own the XH-A1 and am now looking for a compact partner for it. I'm close to buying an HDR-HC7 for that purpose. Both cameras are HDV, but it will be important that the tapes are compatible between these two cameras. I plan to also use the compact camera as a "deck" for 1394 capture.
Anyone know for sure?

Hi Larry. I use the Sony premium tapes in the XH-A1, HC-7, and HV20. The general wisdom around here is that you can probably use any brand you want as long as you stick with the same brand. You won't be able to use the HC-7 as a deck for anything captured with the XH-A1 in frame modes, 24F or 30F. It has to do with the way Canon writes progessive material to the tapes. You can use the HV20 (and I think now the HV30) as a deck for playback and firewire transfer of anything you record with the XH-A1.
