External Mic
What would be the best shotgun mic for an A1 with a max price of around $200?
Thanks |

I have the Røde NTG-1 on a DVC30 and I love it. The NTG-2 is the same except it can use battery as well as phantom.

I just recently bought a Rode NTG-2 off ebay with the deadcat and Rode sm3 shockmount for $350 (australian) and am very happy with it. I am just a beginner so keep your suggestion box open to others advice.

Best is a matter of opinion of course, and in some circles can induce great debate. At your price point, consider the Rode NTG-1 and NTG -2, and the Audio-Technica AT-897. Prices can very substantially based on where you shop on the WEB.
Some people use the Azden shotgun mics (they offer about 4 models at different price points), but based on the specs, they tend to have higher output impedance and higher self-noise levels, and some folks have reported difficulties using certain models with Canon camcorders.
