XH/XL replacement cycle

How often has Canon replaced its prosumer models? I agree with the philosophy of "buy what you need when you need it". But I hate to buy product at the end of its lifecycle.

Around 3 to 4 years is the typical model life run for the prosumer models going back to the Canon L1 Hi8 camcorder, but past practice is no guarantee of the future. Market conditions, competition, demand and technology advances will drive decisions as to new models. Some nominal introduction dates dates

L1 - 1990
L2 - 1993
XL1 - 1998
XL1S - 2001
XL2 - 2004
XL H1 - 2006
