Waterproof XHA1 housing?
Well I've waited all summer but still no one appears to have released a reasonably priced(sub £1500uk) waterproof housing?
Anybody know of one? I've been holding out for an Ikelite but still nothing. I did contact Cameras Underwater in the south of England, the woman said she didn't think there was actually planned, let alone available..... |

Gates and Equinox are the two main UW housings that the pros use. They both have web sites.

You can always take a trip on the wild side!
There’s nothing like livin’ on the edge, to keep the heart tickin’. You may need to increase the diameters a bit, but… http://www.instructables.com/id/Unde...ng-for-miniDV/ |

Phil,
I researched this quite a bit. If you need waterproof with a max depth of 3-4 meters the Ewa marine is a great value and works really well (I have used them with still cameras). If you need dive depths the 3 choices right now are Equinox, Gates or Seacam. The Gates will end up costing more than double your budget as their listed prices doesn't include the port. I don't know much about the Seacam but their reputation in the still world is one of the best. I know someone with the Equinox (for a GL-2) and they give it a mediocre review. Based on price/reputation, the Seacam looks like they way to go unless you need the extra abusibility of an aluminum housing then save up for the Gates. |

Aye, I've used that Ewa Marine.... took a Sony A1U snorkeling in the Bahamas, including as deep as I could go without running out of air, through mud puddles and in waterfalls in C.R., the camera never got damaged, and the water was really flowing in some of those waterfalls.
Ewa + A1U = our stuntcam for a season of adventure TV. It worked. :D Carl |
