Customizing the A1: What are these tunables?
Hi:
I have searched around to figure out what the different custom tunables mean and do. I tried to shoot a test changing each to it's extreme individually, but some appeared to have no effect on my test object. The manual doesn't give a clear idea either, nor does Canon's "XLH1 Total Image Control". I understand Gamma, Master Pedestal and Setup level, and it appears that Knee and Black works on bright and dark end contrast. Now: Sharpness: By the name it is obvious, but how does it work? Horizontal Detail Frequency/Horizontal-Vertical Detail Balance: What is this? When will I need it? No clue on this at all. NR1/NR2: Judging from the description, why would I use NR1 over NR2? It appears to have same effect but NR2 does not leave an after image. Color Matrix: What does this toggle? I mean how does it work? They show a nice curve for Gamma in the manual but nothing for this. RG/GR Matrix etc: Well, along with gain for each channel, this I guess defines all the entries in a 3x3 matrix. I would then guess that the input color vector is multiplied by this matrix to get the output color vector. Is this right? Thanks, Erik |
