16:9 SD/PAL: No effects possible in Avid Xpr?

Hi,

I normally use my XH a1 in SD 4:3 mode. I just wanted to try out the SD 16:9 worflow on my AVID Xpress DV 4.8 workstation. All seemed to work fine apart from - AVID refuses to apply most effects on the footage!! And IF one works, it shows distorted results, like: If you blend too takes into each other, it seems, that the system can differentiate between the takes, as if the 'pictures were too long' (sorry for my english, hope anyone understands what I mean).

First thing I tried was to repeat the whole process on a different workstation: The same - so it shouldn't be a falulty NLE system. And of course, I searched the AVID forums for the topic - but didn't find anything.

My ideas:

a) I have to 'switch' anything in the AVID settings
b) The 'real 16:9 Chip' of the XHA1 produces 'kind of 16:9 SD pic', Avid XPress can't cope with fo any reason.

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks,

Jan

I think you must have some setting wrong. The 16:9 is "real" 16:9 and comes from 16:9 chips. I've loaded 16:9 into Avid Xpress Pro with no problems. But I'm using FCP now so I can't help you with settings. Maybe somebody in the NLE forum?
