Canon Remote RC-V100
So I have been getting into some live video production lately where it would have been really handy being able to shade cameras. I found a canon RC-V100 remote on Ebay for essentially half of retail, and it's really a fantastic piece of gear.
One thing I noticed, however, is that the 100 meter RS422 cable is no longer for sale anywhere. (You can also use the remote with your XF405 or XF600's LANC port). I was thinking I would need more than the thirty feet or so of LANC cable that I happened to have. So I did an experiment: I bought two 3.5mm to Ethernet adapters, and ran the LANC cable into the adapter then through 100 feet of Ethernet, and then put an adapter on the other end, and amazingly it worked. I'm curious to test it on longer runs, but I was pretty happy that this solution seemed to get the job done. |

Re: Canon Remote RC-V100
Thanks for the info.
LANC and RS422 are rather slow speed serial data protocols (by today's standards) so long runs are possible.
