Warning about firmware 1.0.3.1.
For Canon XF705 owners. Please, DO NOT UPDATE to 1.0.3.1. The Firmware update may be corrupt. I just did the latest update an my XF705 camcorder and now it is completely locked up. It will not even turn off without removing the battery. I have owned the XF300 for 7 years, and the XF705 for over a year so I know how to do an update. After the update was completed It said UPDATE SUCCESFUL. As soon as it was completed I went in and checked the new settings and that is when it locked up. Nothing on the LCD or EV. Nothing, I couldn't even shut it off, I had to take the battery out to shut it down. I called Canon Service Center and the tech said the engineer told him this was not the first call they have received. Canon is going to pull the update link down until they can figure it out. I urge you NOT to do the update at this time. I have to send the Camcorder into Canon for repair. Bob

Re: Warning about firmware 1.0.3.1.
Canon has pulled the latest update for the XF705 off of their webpage. Update 1.0.3.1 is no longer there. Has anyone else had a problem with the update?

A new version is now available, version 1.0.4.1, which corrected the problem.

Re: Warning about firmware 1.0.3.1.
Yes, it took about 3 weeks but Canon admitted it was their fault and they fixed it for free and updated it to version 1.0.4.1. I spent some time checking all the updates to make sure everything worked. Apparently there were quite a few camcorders that ended up freezing up after they tried to do the update. I still think the Canon XF705 is a fantastic camcorder. Bob

Re: Warning about firmware 1.0.3.1.
Anthony, In the past I have owned the Canon; XL-1, XL-1s, XL-2, XF300 and now the XF705. I have dragged these camcorders through South America, Africa, Canada and all over the USA. They are tough as nails. Also, I have always been blown away by the color. Check out this clip. The first part had minimal color correction and was shot in 4k, 30 fps. the second half was in 1029x1080 120 fps slow motion with NO color correction, right out of the camcorder. Enjoy. Bob
