Canon XF705 Professional Camcorder to be announced

<<Canon will soon announced a new professional camcorder at IBC 2018 later this week. XF705 will shoot 4K at 60 in 4:2:2: 10bit. Interestingly, the camera will also add a third control ring to control the IRIS. The lens will be a 15x zoom L series lens, which would be a shorter zoom range than the XF305’s current 18x zoom>>.

I'm sure plenty of Canon haters will pick it apart, but it looks like a nice camera. The only complaints I would have is that canon is always a little late to the party, and I wish the price tag was a little lower. I will probably get one to compliment my xf400 and sell off my xf300, xf100 and c100 (hopefully there's a xf700- non-SDI version at a lower price).

I was wondering about an XF700.

Up to this point CUSA has always announced two versions of each XF series camera -- with and without SDI -- going all the way back to the XH and XL H days of HDV.

This is the first time they've done "SDI only" and there must be a rea$on for that...

Chris, usually there is about a $1,000 difference between the 300 and 305 series. In the review on Up To Speed at ProAV TV at around 3:30 seconds he states that there will only be one model, the XF705. No XF700

I wonder if the incremental cost of adding SDI isn't as big as 10 years ago. Think of how many different SDI converters BMD makes that cost less than US$100.

I get the whole different-signal-paths thing. But I'd guess that component costs have come down. So how much less would/could Canon charge for a XF700? And would having an additional SKU with attendant inventory issues be worth it for them?

Maybe there'd be a XF600 without SDI, Log, and some other features?

All just guesses on my part.

Great features but considering the XF-405 does 75% of what this camera does in one form or another at 50% of the price,the 705 seems expensive.

It’ll be nice I’m sure for rental pool useage and shooting live events. If the sensors are as good as the xf305 was (meaning color tones), it will find a niche.

I just bought an xf400 for $2599, so it's quite a bit cheaper. The 705 does seem a little overpriced, but that will drop in time. I'm very happy with the image quality of the 400, so the 705 should be a home run. I'll still be interested in also getting a 705 to pair up with my 400.
