Canon Video Camera X Style for DSLRs to match xf series
Canon apparently released a new picture style for the EOS DSLRs that is supposed to match the look of the xf video cameras. I just downloaded and installed it. It appears to only dial down the sharpness two clicks. Some folks are also saying it has changed the gamma curve on the style. I didn't check that. The claim is that it lowers the contrast level, but I don't see that in the menu listing. I'll try and shoot some samples of it along with Marvel and other built in picture styles and see how well it matches my xf305.

You'd have to wonder what the point of this style was, since you probably wouldn't ever deliver the uncorrected DSLR and xf footage and the xf footage has far more latitude in post (unless you're shooting DSLR Raw, I guess). I'd really like to see a CP that matched DSLR "standard" though.

I am under the impression that the DSLR CP is meant to move things on the DSLR side closer to the XF and not vice versa. While the only setting I could easily see was that the sharpness was lowered on the DSLR (?) I also understand that there were changes to the Gamma curve, though I couldn't validate that.

Match "which" look of the XF series? They come with multiple options, and most folks advanced enough to even know about such things probably don't use any of the factory settings anyway. I certainly don't leave my XF100 at the stock sharpness settings. I agree with Ranier - I'd rather they offered an XFxxx CP file that more closely matched the Canon dslr style settings.

Yes, matching cameras is a moving target. I have custom profiles for the XF300 and have custom picture profiles for use with the 5DMKIII. The Picture profile software from Canon is great to help dial in correct color and gamma settings well beyond the sliders in-camera. I highly suggest anybody with a Canon DSLR to explore this option. Just never had luck using anything from the factory. Glad Canon offers the tools and options to adjust the cameras for us nit-pickers.
