XF Utility - Feature request?
I can't seem to find a way to have the xf utility make a still of a frame. Currently I have to either import into my computer or do a screen save of the image on the screen, neither are what I'm looking for. It would be very handy to have that ability, as I often do events where posting to Facebook or some other online social media site is like a PR update for the organization. Rather than wait to get it all input into the computer,a simple ability such as this would allow, in the field, the ability to do simultaneous updates, without hauling around another camera, or stopping the action on screen. Is there something I'm missing? I couldn't find any such thing in the utility. This is different but similar to capturing a still while in the camera, though that achieves the same thing.

Re: XF Utility - Feature request?
You want to "take" photos? Or you want to "make" a still from an already captured scene? Either way, the answer is yes. User Manual pp161 onwards. Well, that's the page numbering on the UM I just downloaded.
Unless I got your enquiry wrong, then you should be good to go. Cheers Grazie |

Re: XF Utility - Feature request?
Thanks. Technically I meant 'capturing a still' which i can do in 'media' mode. Pg 138. But i would like the same ability in the xf utility.

Re: XF Utility - Feature request?
I'm lost . . . If you are wanting to use the XF Util then you ARE already on a PC or MAC? You said you didn't want to upload to a PC? Ergo, no Utility?
Sorry, I don't get it. Grazie |

Re: XF Utility - Feature request?
No. It's not the same higher res as in the camera. Even iftrue, it should be in the utility. You have the capability in the camera! And yes, i don't want to upload yet, but when i insert the card, and am looking at what i shot, i want to take stills from it Before uploading, which is time consuming. Sometimes i just wantto immediatly capture something to send to FB, or the customer web site.

Re: XF Utility - Feature request?
VLC player takes snapshots of the original size of the footage :1920x1080.
The player does not even have to be at full screen. |

Re: XF Utility - Feature request?
Hi Al,
I was just thinking the same thing the other day, as I was looking at footage using the XF Utility! I wanted screen shots of stuff I shot to post on our blog site, so I ended up using Premiere for the frame grabs. Yes, very time consuming (plus using Photoshop to adjust brightness, contrast, and make the colors pop). But I'll try Ann's suggestion about the VLC player next time :) Best,

Re: XF Utility - Feature request?
I suppose the resolution of a screen grab is going to depend on your monitor size, but I'm thinking most people would have a screen with 1080 resolution or higher. Even if it is your laptop. The other option is to use your editing program. Premeiere Pro will save a still image from any frame IIRC.

Re: XF Utility - Feature request?
While i appreciate Ann's suggestion, it seems an easy thing to ask Canon to add a simple screengrab at full res.I mean they do knowsomething about still photography, (g).even if they have to talk to the "other" Division.
I just like to minimize tools when possible.
