XF100/300 and old Battery Packs
After months of waiting my XF100 finally arrived today.
Unfortunately the supplied battery charger was dead on arrival. I have an old charger from my Canon XM2 (part # CA920) and also some old batteries (part # BP915 and BP930). The new charger is part # CA930 and the new battery is part # BP925. These have three additional electrical contacts (marked T, D, and B) but are otherwise compatible. I have already tried to charge the new battery in the old charger and so far it seems to work without problems. Also the old batteries operate in the new camcorder quite nicely. Can I safely use the old charger / batteries while I am waiting for a replacement of my faulty new battery charger ? Are there any known issues ? Thanks for your help ! Martin |

Re: XF100/300 and old Battery Packs
The old batteries won't give you the real-time countdown of power remaining, but will work fine. The larger capacity older batteries are listed as optional accessories in the user manual and the ones you have are from the same line, just lower capacity. Here's an excerpt from p 176 of the English version of the XF100/105 user manual:
Optional accessories: BP-955 Battery Pack BP-975 Battery Pack BP-950G Battery Pack BP-970G Battery Pack CA-920 Compact Power Adaptor DC-920 DC Coupler DC-930 DC Cable CB-920 Car Battery Adaptor . . .

Pete,
Thanks so much for that info. It seems I don't have to wait for a replacement charger - which is good since I am leaving for vacation in two weeks. Martin |

Re: XF100/300 and old Battery Packs
Glad to help.
BTW, when I got my XF105, I didn't realize that they had changed the charger and cabling connection to the camera. I went on a trip with my brand new camera and got into a total panic because I could not find my XF's coupler cable -- the one with the fitting that slides onto the camera battery slot so you can run the camera on AC power. Eventually, I figured out that the new camera comes with a connecting cable which goes into a small jack in the camera, not the battery slot. So I DID have the new connecting cable with me all along. Videography is always an adventure!
