CF card freezing on import
SanDisk Extreme Pro. 32 GB. End of a long clip recorded on the XF100 as b-roll. Keeps freezing on import at same point in the card/clips.
Fortunately it's B-CAM and at the end of a clip. (I'm trying a work-around where I import up to the corrupted point and then after that point, but if I scrub through the point, everything freezes). Any ideas? Should I trash the card ($300) without hesitation or was it a one-time fluke? Any work arounds? Thank you! |

Re: CF card freezing on import
Before throwing the card away, it may be useful to see if you need the firmware update. I have had my camera since March and only just discovered it needed a firmware update. Your camera may need the same update

Re: CF card freezing on import
Bob -
Thanks so much for chiming in. YES - I got the XF100 early on, too. I did not know about a firmware update for the XF100, I only knew about the one for the XF300. Is it an update that has anything to do with corrupted files? If so, yes, I definitely won't trash the card. Again - thanks for that. |

Re: CF card freezing on import
I just looked at that firmware update and it seems like it's mainly about LEXAR cards and slow-mo recording.
This was just a run-of-the-mill shoot (no slow-mo or anything) on the qualified cards (SanDisk Extreme Pro). The rest of the card seems salvageable if imported before/after the glitch. But not fun to have 4 minutes missing and to have to work-around like this. Any thoughts on causes? |

The "Cold-Hand" of tape errors seeking revenge on this solid state technology.
Answer me this: does one need or are required to format these CF cards? I'm, hopefully, getting a XF300 sometime this year, what's the reduncy cycles on this technology? Scary... Grazie |

Re: CF card freezing on import
I had formatted it just prior to filming. Formatted in the camera and never took the card out. Really, can't repeat enough: run of the mill, no catch!
So... trash the card? Try it again on a test shoot? It was a 32 GB card and kept freezing at 18 GBs on import (basically, the end of a long first clip of three clips). It worked to import if I set my in/out points around the corruption. But that's not very comforting. |
