Hour meter on XF305
I received my Canon XF305 today but the canon box seal was broken. Everything seems to be new and un used but would like to make sure of this if I can.
Anyone else receive a camera with the outer camera box seal broken? Denny |

Re: Hour meter on XF305
I don't know about Canon, but I know Sony USA opens and checks every single new camera that comes from Japan for the first few weeks of a new model, and then they gradually taper off and only spot-check a few cameras as time goes on. The XF305 has been out for about a year, but it is possible Canon USA did a QC check before sending it to the reseller. Maybe not, but it's a possible explanation that should actually make you feel better about the camera you got . . . if it did get a personal QC check.

Re: Hour meter on XF305
No seals on my two boxes. However, the hour meters can be turned back to 00000 hrs via the menu setting.
Look for wear in the battery compartment area and the handle/strap area.

Re: Hour meter on XF305
Maybe the box was opened so that a power lead with the correct connector could be inserted

Re: Hour meter on XF305
I've never seen a Canon camera box sealed in 12+ years of selling them. They come shipped from Canon distribution sealed in a exterior box but the camera box itself is not.

Shurely shome mishtake; why would it need one? there's no moving parts like a tape drum to clock up wear and tear...

Re: Hour meter on XF305
I agree, but similar card based cameras have hour meter on them. Shouldn't really matter, but it can affect the sell on price.
Does this camera and XF300 have an hour meter? |

Re: Hour meter on XF305
Looks like the 305 does have an hour meter that can not be reset.
It also has one that can, but the main meter according to the guys from Vortec Media in their video. Camera seems to be brand new so not going to return it. Hours meters both show 0 hours. |

Re: Hour meter on XF305
You are indeed correct - thanks for identifying this.
Delving into the manual came up with: "The camcorder has two “hour meters” – the first keeps track of total operation time and the second keeps track of operation time since the last time the second hour meter was reset with this function."

Re: Hour meter on XF305
Not at the studio so can not name the button.
Its on the side and lets you go through several screens (not the menu button) maybe status. Its like on screen 3 or 4 that displays both hr meters. |
