I have found that the hours run actually measures the time the camera is switched to Camera or Media and NOT the actual recording time!. Only sussed that out because i left it on as I checked out the menus and generally playing around with my new toy delivered earlier today.

True, but there are many other moving parts on a camera. Its a bit like a car, If the engine has done 60,000 miles, then so has the transmission, drive shafts, suspension etc. It takes many parts to make a camera work.
