50i to 50p
Ever since I had my XHA1, I've always filmed 50i.
I'm covering the gumball Rally this thursday and I've decided to try 50p on my XF300. I've also just purchased a 7D so that I can mix 50p footage from it in Premiere. Is there anything I should be wary about or should I just film as I've always done in 50i? More importantly, should I shoot in 50p anyway? Someone told me that Top gear shoots interlaced???? |

Re: 50i to 50p
Finally got around to trying out the 50p setting on friday.
I think it looks much better than 50i. Rough cut I uploaded just to see how it looks on youtube. It's the footage direct from camera with no post tweaking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J57XVl_Tn4M The only downside is that it's 1280 x 720 and not 1920 x 1080. |

Re: 50i to 50p
same as you mate - I've come from a XHA1. Would have been interested to see the difference too, but can't really tell from that clip.
Pity - if you'd shot it in interlace we might have been able to see the registration plates of those cars, and report them to the police for breaking the 30mph speed limit! ;-) |

Couple of days I go I was at another event and I thought I'd play around with the Canon 7d in 25p mode. I did the interviews with the XF300, but placed the 7d next to it. When I got home and looked at the footage, I ended up using the 7d footage YouTube - ‪Concours D'Elegance 2011 preview‬‏ Going to cover another event this sunday and this time I will do the whole thing in 25p on the XF300. |

Re: 50i to 50p
so was all that footage shot on the 7D then? DOF on 7D will always win over the XF300. I am shooting interviews in an office regularly and has a glass background, sort of like a newsroom - I'll always shoot it on the 7D instead of XF300.
Am getting my XF300 next week hopefully, and will use that for the rest of my shooting. For m, the DSLR's are impact cameras (meaning that they are great for those impact shots) |

Re: 50i to 50p
have a shot of one, just in a shop. Was surprised at the build of it - thought it felt quite plasticy! Am sure it shoots amazing quality, but it's really NOT a live event camcorder like the XF300. If you're looking for it to replace the 7D then fair enough - I still like the fact I can use the 7D to take pictures too! Also the problem of having to pay small fortune for canon lens adaptor (as well as trying to get ahold of one just now!) doesn't help.
