Evf burn-in revisited-caution

So, I just get a new XF-300. I go out on a cloudy day...yes cloudy. Do a test shoot. Lo and behold......a yellow amoeba blob appears in the lower right EVF. I know that it is a burn-in. BUT, I had the camera pointed down even though a cloudy day. Mind you, I have been a videographer for 29 years. I have owned a "zillion" cameras, but never had this problem before-even with the early XL- and XL-2 series. I now better than to point a EVF at the sun due to the magnifier. But no Sun that day. Just a cloudy day with no shadows-the best way to shoot video and test a new camera.

SO, I send a BRAND NEW CAMERA away to CANON in Jamesburg, New Jersey. No here, I have to give the Service Dept credit. I received the camera BACK after a few days. They repaired the EVF, checked for the par-focal issue (did not have that issue) and promptly sent the camera directly back to me rather than my local dealer.

Included in the repair sheet was a note not to point the EVF towards the Sun. What sun? It was cloudy and overcast. Canon also supplied me with a new EVF plug and an instruction sheet how to place a plug into the EVF.

In closing, truthfully, I think the PLUG is a workaround for some type of anomaly that I have read in prior posts. I don't thing a PLUG is the answer as there are many times a camera must have an open EVF-especially with sticks.

My advice to everyone is to be very cautious and contact your dealer and have them order this EVF plug to "play it safe" before it is too late.

Just my thoughts.

BTW: I love this camera and it produces a sharp and colorful image. The Canon Service Dept. was superb and prompt.

Glad to hear that Canon resolved the issue Lou. I've got the same problem (as you probably read in the Vimeo XF305/300 Forum.)
I haven't sent the unit back yet, but I've spoken to them in Elstree, London, and they're going to repair it...
I hope they've got a plug for it as well.
