Interesting article, although they got some of the info on the Panasonic cameras wrong.
It's not just the gear that the stations are saving money on - it's the personnel. It's not uncommon to see reporters acting as their own photogs, even in large TV markets. The cameras are now so small and easy to use. The reporter/photog can even do their own stand-up just by looking at the viewfinder flipped forward, then easily play back the clip to check it. It sure is different since I shot news in the old 3/4" days. |

I like the way the editing often compliments the self shoot camerawork. It's called progress.
