Canon XF305 and Premiere CS4 at DVinfo.net

Good morning, all!

We picked up our XF305 yesterday and I finally got a chance to play around with it this morning. Shot a couple of test clips and they looked fantastic when I viewed them with Canon's XF Utility. Everything about this camera feels and looks promising...yadda yadda yadda.

So, the somewhat bad news: as far as I can tell, after installing the Canon XF utility and whatnot, there is zero integration with Adobe's CS4 suite. When attempting to import an MXF into Premiere or After Effects, I have been getting error after error.

It is entirely possible that I am the first schmuck out there to try this, so I will let you know what I find out and if this is going to be possible at all. I tried hunting around on the net for a solution, but I can't find a single thing about the issues...other than the fact that the XF codec is native in CS5...typical Adobe ;D

Anyway, tons of test clips to come...might be shooting some green screen tomorrow.

excellent! congrats on getting it ,i have adobe cs5 ,if you post some samples i can tell you if they work or not

I have CS5 and downloaded some test clips. Works fine, BUT CS5 does not import the timecode. It is stated in the readme.

You use the HDCAM HD422 Presets.

We shot 80 minutes of interviews and b-roll for a television docudrama over the course of yesterday and today. Since our CS5 rig won't be in until later this week, I won't be able to render any tests for you guys.

I can tell you, however, that after viewing the clips on a 1080P television via the HDMI output on the jack pack, I have been completely blown away. We're shooting the pilot @ 1920X1080 30P 50 Mbps for an eventual bump down to 720P (hopefully) for broadcast. Initial reaction: the footage is INSANE for an $8K camera...and Canon seems to have hit a home run.

No green screen test as we decided to shoot our interview this morning with a black BG...but we always do a lot of chroma work, so I'll get back to that.
