Frame Mode, yes or no?

Greetings -- can anyone tell me or confirm that these cams will shoot in "true progressive" mode - or are the 24 p and 30 p as listed just Canon's "disguised" 24 F and 30 F recording modes -- meaning really an interlaced recording mode ? Appreciate any info or links leading me to the "real" description of these progressive modes.

Thanks !

First of all, Frame mode -- 24F and 30F on the XH and XL H series camcorders -- is indeed true progressive scan. It is not "interlaced" recording. NLE software such as Final Cut Pro and Premiere capture it as 24P and 30P because that's what it is. An NLE can't distinguish any difference between Frame Mode and progressive scan video because there isn't any difference.

Frame Mode needs a CCD pixel offset process in order to work, and in the case of the XH and XL H series camcorders, that process was H-axis Pixel Shift. In the case of the XF series camcorders, those sensors aren't CCD, but CMOS. And there is no pixel offset process used since the native resolution on each of the sensors is 1920 x 1080.

So, while your description of Frame Mode isn't at all accurate, I guess what matters here is that it isn't used on the XF series because it's an entirely different image sensor block relative to the previous ones which had Frame Mode.

I've edited the title of this thread, changing it from "Canons New 300 and 305 HD Cams?" to "Frame Mode, yes or no?" -- please avoid ambiguous thread descriptions on DV Info Net. thanks in advance,
