Speaking with the Canon reps on the floor yesterday at NAB I was told the 300 would be $6800 and the 305 will be $8000.

So as official as that can be, I guess that's official. Street Price? NO Idea.!!

Historically new Canon Video camera have sold for darn near the suggested Retail price when they are first released. I know, I have bought several. I am not saying they won't be a little cheaper but don;t expect it to be much lower if lower at all.

Just got back from seeing the FX300 and 305 at NAB....very impressive cams, but I do wonder if they are priced a bit rich relative to the new competitiors from Panasonic (HPX300) and Sony's EX-1R and even the NX5U.

I got to test one of the cams at NAB shot a Rez card did some side by side with my EX1. Do not expect the street price to be much lower, the rep that I talk to said there would not be much of a margin for discounts. Also the footage drops right in to Sony Vegas 9c with no problems I will try to post something on Monday.

Looks like Canon priced me out of their range...after going from GL1 to GL2 to XHA1..I guess this is the end of the trail for me and Canon at the moment. No way I can do 14gs for two cameras..when there are comparable products on the market for less...

Check out these UK prices:

Canon XF300 HD Camcorder - Park Cameras Online

Over £10,500 (over $16,000)

I sincerely hope this is a typo.

Latest newsletter from UK retailer Top Teks says of the XF300 "At about £6K it will compete with the EX3" but doesn't suggest an on-sale date over here. HTH.

6k for the fixed lens version? I can buy an EX1R for 4 and a half. i'll be surprised if Canon can shift these camera's at this price. And how much is the 305, let alone the changeable lens version likely to follow.

Looks to me like Canon is doing what Yamaha are doing with their new motorbikes. Pricing themselves out of the market.

But let's wait and see when they hit the shops.

i don't get it, if you want to buy a decent camcorder like XH-A1 (and it's pricerange), but with memorycards, you can not. how much longer do we have to wait for this. canon makes you switch to competitors.

that is very true jan, but this camera i will argue is not in the xh a1 level. its at the very least double the picture quality and improvements. but it is in a different level category than the xh a1, thats why they still sell the a1s.

I think the real question is, is it worth that much more than the EX1R ?

And let's not forget the pricing is for the cheapest option which is already on a par with the EX3 in the UK. The 305 version is a grand more, while the changeable lens version is likely to be at least a grand on top of that.
In the UK at least, this camera is getting into XD cam territory.
