First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
Surprised no one else is talking about it? I got the email today and here is what it says.
Firmware Version 1.0.3.0 incorporates the following modifications: 1. Enhances compatibility with third-party remote controllers. 2. Resolves the phenomenon in which the headphones terminal audio output timing is delayed when [Normal] is selected as the [Monitor Delay] option. 3. When recording in the MP4 format [59.94P/50P (35Mbps)], changes have been made in the metadata details so that the time codes can be properly displayed in Apple Final Cut Pro X Version 10.0.9. 4. Corrects some mistakes in the onscreen guidance for connecting to Remote Browse in languages other than Japanese. Firmware Version 1.0.3.0 is for the camcorders with Firmware Version 1.0.1.0 to Version 1.0.2.0. If your camcorder's firmware is already Version 1.0.3.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Going to download it now. |

Re: First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
That's excellent news. I've not registered my camera yet! Is it on their website?

Re: First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
The firmware is available on the UK Site for both Win and Mac. I’ll download it now and hope there is instructions on how to install. Thanks for the heads up Colton :)

Re: First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
I only got my Canon XA20 last week. It had Firmware Version 1.0.1.0 but I have now successfully updated it to version 1.0.3.0 and everything appears to be running smoothly. I will be giving the camera a full test today to ensure there are no issues with the update :)

I received the email as well, downloaded the file, followed the instructions, and everything updated perfectly. No hassles.

Re: First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
Superb, thanks for posting this up. I don't know if I ever did register with Canon but I certainly haven't had any email from them. The correction to the headphone delay will be very handy!!
Thanks.

Re: First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
The instructions were clear and the procedure was very straightforward.
However, the actual upgrade process took longer than I expected. Just as I began to conclude that something had gone awry, it finished and all was well. One caveat: if you have custom settings you may want to make note of them because the upgrade will reset everything to the factory defaults.

Best option is to save your settings on another SD card and load it after the update.

Re: First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
I Actually bought a XA25.
It had Firmware Version 1.0.1.0 but I have now successfully updated it to version 1.0.3.0 and everything appears to be running smoothly. The phenomenon in which the headphones terminal audio output timing is delayed when [Normal] is selected as the [Monitor Delay] option is fixed. Very good! |

Re: First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
In defence of Canon it does say in the downloaded instructions the upgrade will take approximately nine minutes.
I didn't expect it to reset all my custom functions though... Ross |
