streaming from XA20

I have a question regarding streaming from the XA-20. I have a client that wants to use take a line feed from a sound mixer, feed it into the 20 then capture via the ( usb port?) into his laptop and U-stream an instructional segment. Does this sound right? does the 20 pass audio via the USB port? I'm really just setting up his lighting situation, however, he asked if I had any idea if it did.

thanks for any help.

Re: streaming from XA20

You can get live video form the AV output and the HDMI output.
I suspect the USB port is limited to file transfers
The WiFi capability might provide a useful capability to connect to a tablet as well..

Re: streaming from XA20

Don is correct, you're not going to get a live video stream out of the USB...on any camcorder. The XA20 can connect to portable devices via WiFi, but that is for remote control via a web browser, and for clip playback after recording is completed. Does not send a live stream while shooting.

One would need a way to get the HDMI or analog video output from camera into the streaming computer. A unit such as the Matrox MXO2 Mini, or certain Black Magic Design capture devices can interface with certain software for live streaming. For instance, MXO2 works with Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder, and in fact does hardware scaling of the incoming video, so that FMLE only needs to encode, and not scale the video. For example, incoming 1920x1080 video can be scaled to 640x360 prior to being handed to FMLE for encoding/streaming.

On a tight budget, if a laptop has a Firewire port and the camcorder can output SD video, one can use a relatively inexpensive analog > Firewire converter to feed video into computer for streaming. Unsure if XA20 can output SD video.

Hope this is helpful

Thanks
