Trim MP4 - lossless?
Hi, I am wondering if anyone provide a tip or two.
I have been shooting MP4 from the XA20. Love it. I'd like to trim the files, while retaining all the relevant Exif info. I don't want to convert the footage at all. It doesn't have to be frame accurate, just trimming to the beginning of the GOP will keep me happy. Infact I'd like to avoid re encoding it all together. Basically I have one long shoot, and I would like to split it up. I want to keep the Exif because it contains the aperture, shutterspeed, time in cam, etc. Exiftool seems to read it, and I'm sure that eventually something like DVMPPro will. I realize that I can do it in cam, but that is far from ideal in my situation. Any ideas? :) |

Hi Jeremy,
You didnt mention your preference so i'll link you to some software that may be an option if you're not closed to paying. SolveigMM Video Splitter I'm sure i had some free app's in my quest for the same thing but i've got a fresh install atm so i''ll have to go searching. if i find them i'll chime back in! i've been after some kind of application to read full EXIF information out of a video file and you hinted at using something called Exiftool so i'm going to search for that to see if its up to standard. :)

Quicktime 7 Pro does this. You set in/out points and either overwrite or save a new file. Quicktime X may do it as well, I haven't tried. Not sure if you have Mac or PC though...

I'm afraid it won't retain the EXIF info, but AVIdemux does lossless splits.

Re: Trim MP4 - lossless?
Hi all,
thanks for the suggestions. I'm using a PC here. According to exiftool, Quicktime Pro 7 on the PC doesn't keep the exif information, and neither does SolveigMM Video Splitter... Still searching! |
