XA10 won't shoot still if double slot record is on
I have come across what I think is a bug. I noticed that I can't take a still photo if the camera is set to record video in the double slot mode. If I turn off the double slot mode it takes a photo no problem. With double slot recording on I can't get the camera's to save a photo to any location (internal, Card A, or Card B). When I try I get a red X in teh upper right corner of the LCD for about 1 second. If I turn off dual slot video recording and press the photo button, the camera takes a photo and I get a green icon in the upper right corner of the screen. I prefer to use double slot recording so I always have a backup in case of a memory failure.
I am a wedding photographer. I purchased a pair of XA10's so I could add a option for video. I need one good still photo for the DVD cover on each wedding. If I shoot both video and stills at the same wedding, I would use one of the many DLSR images. If I shoot only video I don't want to bring the DLSR's at all. I just need to get one portrait of the B&G and the output from the XA-10 is good enough. It's a pain to have to go into the menus, turn off dual slot recording, take the shot and then go back and reset dual slot recording. Anyone have a solution? |

Re: XA10 won't shoot still if double slot record is on
I looked through the XA10 manual and couldn't find any mention of this limitation, so I believe you have found an undocumented glitch. The only workaround I can think of is to extract your desired still from the video recording later on (see page 104 of the manual for this procedure).
