Thoughts on G10 vs XA 10?

From my understanding, the HF G10 is identical to the XA 10 with the exception of the handle and balanced inputs. Since you can just add a Beachtek adapter to the G10 to get balanced input cheaper than the difference between the G10 and XA 10, my question is: Is it worth it to get the XA 10? Or does the built-in XLR inputs have an advantage over the Beachtek inputs?

Re: Thoughts on G10 vs XA 10?

Some people had issues with the OIS with the g10 in dynamic mode my xa10 and others did not have the issue or as bad. I liked the handle and the great ir mode. The second batch of g10s seem to be as good as the xa10s from What guys are posting in avsforum. I loved my xa10, I may someday get another one.

Re: Thoughts on G10 vs XA 10?

Personally I'm paying the premium for the XA10 because I feel it's much more convenient.

1. It's nice to have everything running off one battery, just need to carry several of the same.
2. You can easily attach a mic and light at the same time.
3. That handle will make many shots much more comfortable to get
4. a minor point but one that would bother me ... the XA10 accessory shoe is on the front of the camera, in contrast the G10 accessory shoe is on the back of the cam
5. Twice the memory, 64GB for 24 hours of recorded HD footage

That's worth the extra US$300 to me.

Additionally the XA10 also has:
- IR mode

Does the G10 record in IR if it has an IR light source like the XA10 would, or can you only do IR with the XA10?
